Empire of Hearts by Gaia was one of the year’s top trance anthems, with the alter ego of Armin Van Buuren aligned with Dutch trance legend Benno de Goeij producing a new electro trance style that certainly has breathed new life into the trance genre. Their performance at Ultra Music Festival in Miami at the A State of Trance 650 was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the weekend, and to be honest I did not think anyone could do any better than the original. I was mistaken. Icelandic prodigy Johann Stone takes the original in a far more tech trance direction, and this is arguably an improvement on the original.
